It's pretty funny how quick XP and Vista have been dropped off everyone's list now that Windows 7 is out.

I'm still using WinXP "Tin" and will be for awhile yet till I completely get the hang of this "Penguin OS" and then it's "Asta La Vista Windows" :)

Nahh. Once your experiment with installing, configuring, troubleshooting Linux is over and got tired of boasting about ditchin' Windows you'll keep on returning to that Windows partion often enough to still be counted amongst Microsoft's pawns.

He's got a computer that came with Windows. Whether or not he ever uses Windows, MS still counts him as a user. They go purely by sales.

Actually "Tin" It didn't come with any OS loaded on it but back in my young puppy days I didn't know there was anything but Windows so I bought Win98SE which I've always preferred to XP anyway :)

The only thing that's stopping me from ditching Windows now "AlexF" is I don't really like the way email programs work in Linux. Why on God's green earth I have to supply a password every time I want to write an email is beyond me.
Apart from that,I'm happy with it.

If it's asking for a password so you can send emails, then you've probably got the SMTP settings wrong. You shouldn't need to authenticate for most ISP SMTP servers as long as you're connected by that same ISP.

I'm dualbooting WinXp and Ubuntu9.04 on here "Tin" and when I set up my email on Ubuntu I just copied the settings that I had on the original sheet into the appropriate box. e.g. POP & STMP servers =username.internode.on.net and when it finished it asked me for a password which I thought was my Internode password but this seems to have stuffed everything up :( Any suggestions :)
By the way :) should I upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 as that seems to be the next upgrade that is on the horizon here. It's just over 1GB and I'm wondering if it's worth it:) Thanks "Tin" :)
