Hi,
I bought a new Asus Notebook, and it came with the Asus Vista DVD.
To my horror and shock, there is a "workplace" and folder called "ConfigSetRoot" on the original Asus DVD that contains an illegal keygen.exe for Winrar. It is registered to someone called "Freddy Cruger", and it's obviously an illegal crack.
Due to the seriousness of this offense I asked for a refund, but Asus refused.
How can I contact APC to get their take on this situation?
Thank you
Tony

It even has confidential and private Vista documentation on how to deactivate Vista.
I think you made a good suggestion. I will contact Microsoft.

We'll look into it with ASUS too. Sounds extraordinary if true. What exact model of ASUS notebook was it?

The model is Asus f3jc. And I spoke with Asus again today, and they are still refusing a refund, even though my original Asus Vista DVD contains illegal and pirated crack software.
All they offer me is a new DVD which is a later version which they say does not contain the illegal pirated cracks.
I am taking further action and will keep you all posted.

I have an ASUS VX2 and I also have the same files on my computer. These files are located in windows/configsetroot (as described by tony20008) and are on both the laptop and on the ASUS recovery media. As well as cracked copies of WinRAR and Microsoft (confidential NDA) documents and programs detailing OEM activation, there is a serial number for another program (in a sub-directory called "crack"), ASUS documents, source code, and many other programs (I do not know whether any of these other programs are pirated, but at the least it appears that further unauthorized redistribution may be taking place).

Is the disc a MS genuine disc with the gold image and hologram on it or a ASUS branded OS disc / Recovery disc ?
There are plenty of manufacturers who have discs with slip-streamed content to avoid the validation headaches MS imposed on its products. Im sure anyone with real PC expirence can vouch for pain that MS can hand down with Activation / Validation even on perfectly legit systems. The WinRAR keygen claim sounds funny as the normal way to bypass WinRAR is NOT with a keygen. The keygen may actually be written for ASUS who distrubute the product on mass and have paid for it.
That said, It still maybe more a case that it is actually the vendor you bought the laptop off who has made the disc. ASUS don't normally supply an OS disc as the OS is pre-installed and uses a recovery partition on the HDD.

Yes, are you sure it is not the reseller (ther person/store you bought the computer) from who is at fault rather than the manufacturer? In any case if you notify Asus and Microsoft between them they can get to the bottom of it if there is an issue.
