I am trying to install Windows XP (with my original xp cd) onto my Acer Aspire One 150 and keep getting the blue screen of death. I boot the notebook up from the XP CD in a USB DVD drive. It installs the driver and files until it comes to where it says "starting windows". I get this blue screen of death, no matter what I try. It does not go any further than that.

My Acer Aspire One came with a 120GB hard drive and 512 MB memory. I added an extra 1GB of RAM, and the system sees it. It boots up fine and works fine with the Linpus that it came in. The memory is a Kingstons DDR2 200 Pin SO-DIMM compatible with PC5400 and PC4300.

Does any one have any idea as to what is wrong with it? Why am I not able to install XP? Is the memory an issue?

Take the Kingston out and leave only the factory RAM. Now try and boot. If still BSODing the run memtest through and test the RAM.

Its funnny how many people love buying kingston for laptops when so many vendors publicly state they do not support kingston. Not saying yours is but I see alot of acers and HP's coming in with same issues to find kingston in them, all good when taken out.

P.S, just beacuse its detected doesnt mean its OK and going to play nice.

I have taken out the RAM and it still does the same thing. I still get BSOD when it comes to "starting windows". My Aspire One came with the 512MB onboard RAM and the OS is Linpus. What is the command to test memory in Linpus?

Most important of all, I want to convert it to an XP machine. Also, does anyone know what is the maximum memory that Acer Aspire One A150 can support?

The memtest program LostBenji is talking about is available from http://www.memtest86.com/.

The maximum amount of memory the Acer Aspire One A150 supports is Up to 1GB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM. (information found at http://www.acer.com.au/Acer/akc/netbook.nsf/Page/RWPAC245ACD6D38FD57CA257473000AFE46?open&current=8.6&ms=expand&)

Thank you The Penguin and LostBenji for your suggestions. I will run memtest and let you know of the results.

Hi, Kev08 I have the same problem as you. I purchased a Acer Aspire one A150 from DABS.com but I haven't added more RAM. Its just the default install of the linux OS.
I've tried using x2 different external USB cd drives and an XP with sp1 & XP with sp2 disk and It always blue screens with a ..000x07 error (or somthing like that). Previously I've only seen that error when faulty/incompatible ram was installed in a computer.
I think i'm going to have to RMA it!? let us know how you get on. I'm kind of glad i'm not alone here...

Oh yes, one more thing. MEMTEST runs fine on my A150. From experience as an IT tech, I can say for certain that running a memtest does NOT always pick up issues. Yes I'm aware there are many different memtest programs but they all run through much the same process.

I doubt any vendors would 'publicly state' they do not support a particular brand, do you mind sharing with us the links or posts regarding to this?
