About Tim Gaden

Apart from writing for APCMag.com X-Factor and APC Magazine, I work as a university research fellow. I teach Ancient Greek, supervise higher degree by research students, and think deep thoughts.

I'll admit it – I write about Apple matters with all the zeal of a convert. Switching to Macs three years ago transformed my life. Just like reformed smokers, reformed Windows users can't stop going on about how much their life has improved. X-Factor lets me share the love.

On my Mac

My main computer is a MacBook Pro running Tiger and – in order of use – Apple Mail, NetNewsWire, Safari, TextMate and Mellel and Bookends.

It travels everywhere with me, to work and back, to the beach house, to the shed out the back which is my office, back to the lounge room. It's my third child. Did I mention that Mac users have very intense relationships with their computers?

In my pocket

My MacBook Pro is my favourite gadget, but sadly it doesn't fit in my pocket.

However, my Nokia N60 mobile phone, a Fisher Space Pen and a Moleskine cahier do. That, and a credit card are all the gadgets I need.

I am the last Mac journo on the planet without an iPod.

On my wishlist I've been eying off the new 24in iMac since it arrived. It's on my wishlist because it is beautiful and desirable but I don't really need it.

Personal interests

I run a little blog called Hawk Wings which is all about how to wring the very last drop of functionality out of Apple Mail. Tips, tricks, plugins, applescripts, productivity apps and more.
