AMD and Intel have big notebook plans for 2010

We are almost ready to close out the first decade of the new millennium. With the new year will come a slew of new computers and technologies. Both AMD and Intel have new CPUs and platforms set to hit the market in 2010 and roadmaps for both chipmakers laptop plans have turned up.

The big news from Intel for 2010 will be its "Arrandale" chip. The processor is the mobile version of the 32nm Westmere processor line with support for hyper threading. The Arrandale chip will be part of the Calpella platform that wraps the CPU with the 5-series chipset for good measure.

PCMag expects the Arrandale chip to come in Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 flavors. We also expect to see the new Intel Core i9 parts debut in 2010. One of those 6-core bests has already turned up on eBay recently. In the netbook market, 2010 will bring the new Pineview processor.

AMD is bringing its quad-core Danube CPU to market in 2010 for the mobile market and will be deploying a new DirectX 10.1 compatible integrated graphics chipset. AMD will also offer up a new 45nm chip with the code name Geneva aimed at the ultrathin market in the first half of the year. Lots more is happening in 2010 in the processor market as well.
