Optus 'microSIM' plans for the iPad 3G kick off at $15 for 500MB, stretch to $130 for 14GB, with expiry periods ranging from 15 days to six months.

Optus has struck back at Telstra's iPad 3G prepaid plans with a staggering array of nine recharge packs from $15 to $130, and use-by dates stretching past Telstra's standard 30 day expiry period.

The $30 Starter Kit for what Optus tags as its prepaid 'MicroSIM' plans includes 2GB of data with an extra 1GB until September 30th.

Top-ups start at $15 for 500MB and $20 for 1GB, both with a 15 day expiry. Three deals at the higher end of the scale – $70 for  9GB, $100 for 12GB and $130 for 14GB – expire after 60 days.

If you really want to bulk up with data in advance, the $80/8GB plan has a six-month (186 day) use-by period.

All plans include the same bonus 1GB when activated by September 30th.

These are in addition to the month-to-month plans announced on the weekend, which are $20 for 2GB, $30 for 3GB and $60 for 8GB.

I like the sound of the 6 month plan. I'm not a big fan of Optus so I hope VHA do a similar thing. I've used 3 pre-paid ($29 for 2GB) with my netbook and found that most months I did only just above 1GB.
