Telstra and Optus confirm their respective iPad microSIM prepaid broadband starter kits will go on sale days ahead of the iPad’s launch this Friday.
There’s no way to avoid the queue outside Apple stores this Friday morning when the iPad goes on sale – but at least you can get the prepaid broadband starter kit for your iPad 3G ahead of time.
Telstra’s
Pre-Paid SIM for Apple iPad Kit will go on sale on Tuesday May 25th at the carrier’s T-Life Stores and other Telstra shops.
A Telstra spokesman confirmed that Telstra stores will be permitted to sell the $30 starter kits – which include an initial 1GB of data plus a bonus 2GB, with a 30 day use-by date – starting today.
Larger city stores would be the first to sell the kits as they are the first to receive deliveries, but as the week continues the kits will be available from any Telstra store and “selected partners” as soon as their stocks arrive.
Optus will follow on Wednesday, with a spokesperson advising to APC that the starter kit for its
Micro-SIM Pre-Paid plans “will be in store from the 26th of May”.
Optus’ iPad 3G starter kit also costs $30 and comes with a standard 2GB of data plus a bonus 1GB with a 30 day expiry date.
Meanwhile, iPad plans from VHA remain MIA – there’s still no hint of pricing, data allowances or data use-by dates for sister networks Vodafone and Three, although an announcement is tipped for tomorrow.
