Apple Australia has posted lots of job ads for its soon-to-be-opened Apple store in George St Sydney. PLUS: Movie rentals coming to iTunes -- confirmed.

If you've ever visited an Apple store overseas and thought it would be an ideal job to work in one, now's your chance.

In the worst kept secret in town, Apple is opening its first flagship store in George St, Sydney in 2008. But even with Apple's legendary secrecy, some things need to go public before showtime - like hiring staff.

If you surf over here, you'll find lots of job openings for everything from cashier to Mac Genius. Most of the roles sound great if the experience of the Apple store rollout in the US is anything to go by, and you're involved in retail already.

If you haven't had the opportunity to visit an Apple store in the flesh, this piece in the NY Times is a good read and discusses the various reasons for Apple's retail success. It mentions that Apple now 'derives 20 percent of its revenue from its physical stores, and generate sales at the rate of about $4,000 per square foot a year.'

ALSO: Movie rentals coming to iTunes

According to the Financial Times Apple has signed News Corp to be the first partner in its new video-on-demand service. The report suggests the deal 'will allow consumers to rent the latest Fox DVD releases by downloading a digital copy from Apple’s iTunes platform for a limited time.'

But the deal, due to be announced at the upcoming Macworld conference will apparently also pave the way for a FairPlay encoded file to be included on all new Fox DVD releases. This presumably will let consumers who purchase the physlcal DVD quickly transfer their purchase to their iPod for portable consumption. Not that ripping a DVD is actually difficult now, but I can see consumers paying a few dollars more for a DVD with a digital file included.

The FT article also goes on to mention that Apple has 'been in talks with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount and Warner Bros about making their new releases available on iTunes to buy and rent.'

No word on when this service will rollout in Australia, but fingers crossed we should have it by mid-2010.
