4 days to go:Apple has hired armed personnel to supervise the distribution of the iPhone to retail stores. Plus, gambling firms have started reckoning the odds that the iPhone prices will hit $1500 on eBay.

APCMag will be bringing you a daily summary of all the important iPhone-related news from overnight up until launch day, which is 8am Saturday 30th Australian eastern standard time.

iPhone to be a winner, bet on it.

A US online gambling firm BetUS has calculated the odds of the iPhone hitting a home run. It gives iPhone odds like 5:6 that sales will exceed 12 million units in 2008 and 2:1 that iPhone prices will triple to $1500 on eBay.

First iPhone shipments hit the US

According to Appleinsider the first retail-bound volume shipments of iPhone have hit the US shores. The shipments were met by armed personnel who were reportedly hired by Apple through its courier's ground handling agent.

The guards will presumably observe the break-up of stock and then accompany it to its destination. Word on the street is that all retail stores will receive their iPhones just after the 4pm, in time to go on sale at 6pm.

iPhone can open your Word, Excel and PDF attachments

In case you missed this announcement last week iPhone can (and will) open MS Word, MS Excel and PDF attachments. You can't edit the files but who wants to on a phone anyway?

Get an iPlan with your iPhone

BGR reports that the 'iPhone data plan will be around $US34.99-$US44.99 and feature unlimited data, and either 2000 text messages, or unlimited text messages.

iPhone day could bring in as much as $200 million

Thestreet is reporting that launch day might bring in up to $200 million in revenue for Apple, or triple Apple's daily revenue. Not bad for the last day of a quarter.

Your Dad:

Why would anyone buy a 2.5g phone when the latest phones on the market are at 3.5g already... Put on top of that that people are already working on 4g phones, you would be a fool to buy this but then again there are plenty of "I'm so cool, I have an iphone" people out there!

It's obvious that you're one of these guys writing these kind of comments just for the sake of dissing stuff. Moreover, I'm sure that you can't afford OR you aren't even using 50% of the features a 2.5g phone offers (such as GPRS data transfers or EDGE), so let be doubt you that you would actually use ANY features of a 3g or 3.5g phone. Actually, the percentage of people globally taking advantage of 3g is SO small (it's limited to some countries such as Japan, Sweden, etc.) that 3g has been called a failure in the mobile world and that's because the demand of data-transfers is so much greater. While you & some other uniformed people are waiting for 4g, there will be 5g phones on the market. And I bet you then, that Apple will embrace such a mature and widely used technology on its phones, that users will be able to make actual use of it...

=*Shelby*=:

I was just wondering, since iPhone is a touch screne, what if a person is carrying there iPhone in there purse, and the movment in the bag is causing the phone to do all kinds of things with out the owner of the phone knowing of it. it could call someone, go onto the internet, or even send emails. I think that there should be a little more info on the iPhone before any buys it! Not to be mean or anything buy, you know... I doubt that an iPhone owner would want a stress relive letter to be sent to his boss, that was supposed to stay private.

The iPhone most likely uses a capacitance based touch sensor for the touch display. Most items in your purse, pocket, etc. will not trigger this display. The capacitance relies on a charge which usually only builds up under the presence of your finger, just like the trackpad on a laptop or the current iPod click wheels.
