The tales of Apple fanboys around the world are never-ending: the latest report details an apple grower who is branding his apples with Apples. Got that?
I thought I was a nutcase for thinking about naming my son Mac, but now, a Japanese Apple fan who runs a fuji apple orchard has gone and done the most obvious thing an Apple fan can do: create his own line of 'customised' apples, complete with Apple and iPod logos.
According to this
report, the grower achieved the fruit branding feat by placing stickers on the apples before they ripened, the grower was able to produce a piece of fruit that would make Steve Jobs, and more importantly Jonny Ives (lead Apple designer) proud.
Apple and iPod branded apples joins a long list of other crazy Mac related fanboy stunts. There are so many that Leander Kahney, a writer at Wired magazine, was able to produce a 280 page hardcover coffee table book called '
Cult of Mac'.
And as if one book on Apple fanboys wasn't enough, there's now a sequel called '
Cult of iPod', and an upcoming movie called '
MacHeads, The Movie', a documentary about Apple fans, due for release at Macworld in 2009.
It's no surprise that the legion of Apple fans is growing. With Apple reporting record Mac and iPod sales in its last quarter growth remains strong for the Apple brand.
Then there's the iPhone story, a smartphone that at least one
analyst estimates will sell over 9 million iPhones in the current quarter, putting it far ahead of other smartphone rivals like BlackBerry and positioning it as the most popular smartphone in the world.
Can Apple reproduce its iPod success with the iPhone? Only time will tell, but if the success of the App Store, now filled with over 10,000 apps which have been downloaded over 300 million times, is any indication, the answer just might be yes.
