It may not be the Apple tablet, but the slick
Archos 9 UMPC is the first mini-tablet we know of that will run Windows 7. With Windows 7 launching in only a few weeks, the time is nigh for the Archos 9 to break cover.
UMPCPortal reports that the Archos 9 release date is set for October 22.
The device will cost $US499 ($AUD569) and will come in either white or black colors. Specifications include an Atom Z510 1.1GHz CPU, 9-inch 1024 x 600 resolution resistive touch screen, and 1GB of RAM. Storage for the device is to a 60GB HDD and the machine will run Windows 7 Starter edition.

Archos promises that the battery will last for four hours and the svelte machine will weigh only 800 grams. The device is certainly thin and lightweight, and an accessory wireless keyboard will also be available -- pictured below. The price isn’t that bad either surprisingly. There is no word on availability outside the U.S. at this point.
