Actually, we mean your applications, but it does help if you're compatible too. If Windows 7 launches in October, a mutual understanding of Librans will be a plus.

On a Dutch Microsoft independent software vendor blog, you can find all the information you need to check that your applications will function when run under Windows 7. Thankfully, all the advice is in English and there are many links to useful resources to help confirm your programs will play nicely with the upcoming operating system.

The advice comes in two posts, the first offers testing advice and the second has plent of practical tips on how to add features quickly to make use of Windows 7's improved functionality, such as Touch and the new Taskbar.

Among the technical stuff is the interesting snippet that gaining Windows 7 certification is now a self-test, which will save endless bouts of passing code between developers and Microsoft testing labs around the world. The tools for this are currently in pre-release and there is a link to a sign-up to join the program.

Microsoft staff talk about Windows, through a window!

Whether you are updating an application, or starting on a new project, these well-written posts will point you in the direction of all the right tools and help you. If you're interested in the developing side of Windows 7, Microsoft recently launched a new web site, talkingaboutwindows.com that offers a battery of video thoughts and opinion from the heavy hitters involved in creating the OS, with links to discussions, advice and further information.

Well that certainly leaves all the Linux and Mac crowds out !
...... and most of the posters on this site :)

On the serious side I can see MS trying to do all the right things with this imminent OS release. Less of the arrogance and more of the 'love'.

Trying being the operative word. I'd agree Microsoft has recognised they need to make changes but there is a huge gap between , saying your listening ,wanting to listen, and actually listening to consumers. Old habits die hard, and while Win 7 does show a few signs of improvement there are many issues that continue to remain unaddressed.

The question isn't "Am I compatible with Win7", the question is "is Win7 compatible with my needs".

1st link appears to be broken. I've been using windows 7 for a month now, and its much improved over vista. I'm using it as my main OS, and will buy a license when it ships. Much improved over XP and Vista. What issues are you talking about raindog?

The major issues are sluggish file transfer performance and compatibility issues with non Windows (or older windows) servers.

As for Windows annoyances the list is long, many of which have endured since well before XP. Recent Windows version have contributed new annoyances rather than addressing existing ones.
