Asus Eee 1005PR gets hardware video acceleration from Broadcom.

Back in early January, Asus was pulling the wraps off a few new Eee netbooks in preparation for CES including the 1001P. Asus has added a new Eee netbook to its line now called the 1005PR. The machine sticks to the familiar Asus 10.1-inch netbook form with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. The netbook will be offered in black, white, pink, and blue colors.

The processor inside the machine is the Atom N450 and it can be fitted with up to 2GB of RAM. 802.11b/g/n WiFi is built-in along with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR connectivity. Asus points out that some versions of the 1005PR might not have Bluetooth and the same WiFi radio depending on the country.

The netbook uses a Broadcom BCM 70015 HD decoder to support smooth HD video playback. The HDD in the 1005PR is a 250GB unit and the machine comes with 500GB of online storage space. Connectivity options include VGA out, three USB 2.0 ports, RJ45, and a memory card reader is built-in. When the netbook uses the optional 9-cell 63Wh battery Asus claims up to 11 hours of battery life. The standard battery is a 6-cell 58Wh unit good for up to nine hours per charge. Pricing and availability will vary country to country.

Any ideas on price yet? I'm still waiting for a business in Melbourne to get hold of some black 1201n stock. I like getting news of new tech early but when you actually want to check one out 'in the flesh' with a view to buy, it sometimes takes months to hit stores - here's lookin at you ASUS!
