Thin UL series offers Intel CULV processors and discrete NVIDIA graphics.

Asus is perhaps most well known in many parts of the world for its line of Eee netbooks like the 1004DN that features an optical drive built-in. The company is about more than just netbooks though and has today announced a new UL series of ultra-thin notebook computers.

The UL line includes the latest Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CULV processors and some models sport NVIDIA GeForce G 210M graphics. When full graphics power isn't needed the discrete GPU can also be switched off and the internal GPU used alone. Asus promises that the battery life is up to 12 hours.

Despite the impressive features, Asus managed to keep the machines very small with a profile under an inch thick and the machines are aluminum clad for good looks. The UL20A can be optioned with a SU3500 or SU2300 processor as well. It will offer up to 4GB of RAM, a 12.1-inch screen, and up to 320GB of storage.

The UL30A will offer the SU7300 or SU9400 CPU as well as a Celeron SU2300 option and run different versions of Vista with up to 4GB of RAM and a 13.3-inch screen with up to 500GB of storage. Other models in the range include the UL50A with the same processor options as other machines in the line, up to 500GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and a 15.6-inch LCD.

The UL80Ag offers SU9400, SU7300, and SU2300 CPU options, 4GB of RAM, 14-inch LCD, and up to 500GB of storage with up to 4GB of RAM. Not all the machines offer the discrete GPU; the previous models use Intel GMA 4500HD graphics. The UL80V and Ul50Vg models add the NVIDIA GPU to the mix.
