Pocket Trainer
A personal trainer in your pocket.
Price: $12.99 | By: Core Interaction Inc. | From: BlackBerry App World
Losing weight can be as easy as eating smaller portions of healthier meals, but to get fit, you need to exercise. For many, this can be an intimidating task. Pocket Trainer helps you get it done, as it tailors exercises based on how much time you have available.
More than just basing it around available time, however, it also bases the routine (selected from over 300 different exercises) on your weight, height, available equipment and your level of experience (in my case, beginner). The routine will become more rigorous as you become better, making sure that you’re getting the most out of your allocated exercise time.
As a beginner, it was great to be able to watch video demonstrations of the exercises — much cheaper than forking out for a personal trainer or gym membership — although if you do have access to a gym, you can easily select between home and gym exercising from the workout selection menu. At $12.99, it’s at the higher end of app pricing, but it’s cheaper than a personal trainer and really, when your health is concerned, it’s not that much to pay.
Avatar Animator for BBM
From: US$0.99 | By: mblware Inc. | From: BlackBerry App World
If you’re looking to bling up your BBM avatar, why not consider animating it? The Avatar Animator for BBM app makes the process a cinch, by allowing you to either shoot a video or provide up to 10 images to turn into your new digital representation of self. This is, in effect, an animated GIF creator. However, don’t expect the GIFs to be of any use elsewhere — they’re very small and really only suitable for a BBM avatar.
BeWeather HD for PlayBook
Price: US$4.99 | By: Bellshare GmbH | From: BlackBerry App World
Whether you’re worried that the weather looks woeful or wondering what to wear on Wednesday, you want weliable weather warnings. Alliteration aside, it also helps if they’re attractive. BeWeather HD does just this, with animated weather-contextual backgrounds. Of course, functionality is also paramount and it provides all the info you need on one screen. My only gripe is that it doesn’t work with a GPS, but manually specifying your location is no deal-breaker.
Snipper
Price: Free | By: Serramedia BV | From: BlackBerry App World
With Snipper, you can easily share the videos you’re snapping to prescribed, specific groups of friends, or like YouTube, to a public or private channel. Of course, it’s the ability to share them to specific groups that makes it interesting (otherwise you’d just use YouTube, right?), as it means you can film and distribute that all-important conference speaker to your colleagues and clients, and then also the networking drinks shenanigans for your friends and more interesting colleagues — and never the twain shall collide.
