COMPUTEX 2007 |Now you can legitimately say you got wood at Computex, as ASUS has spurned the traditional metal and plastic for bamboo in its latest notebook.
A quick fly through the ASUS stand opened out eyes to some new possibilities today -- organic computing (and we don't mean OLED).
Continuing their theme of adding leather, carbon fibre and wood to notebook finishes, ASUS was showing off a notebook using bamboo in place of more traditional aluminium and magnesium (externally of course).
Apparently it's lighter, stronger and cheaper. Can't argue with that.
Now you can legitimately tell people you got wood in Computex.
Bamboo: they'll be building cars out of it next. |
Also on show was their concept notebook for musicians. Built in dials and lights always makes technology better. It's definitely more luggable than portable though.
No news on whether it's likely to hit Aussie shores, so put your Cubase disks back on the shelf.
Type and scratch: wiggy wiggy wiggy ... break it down. |
More down to earth is ASUS' external 3D graphics card solution for notebooks.
This beauty has been on the maybe shelf for a while, but seems to have found a niche. It contains an NVDIA 8600GT graphics card, and connects to your notebook, allowing you to do some serious gaming on the go.
Pricing indicators around around $400-$500AUD, or around a $100 premium on the graphics card alone.
Take your game with you: everyone knows the game is in the graphics... |
Last but certainly not least from the ASUS stand is the new media centre PC, DAV Center A33. Now that's what a home theatre PC is meant to look like.
Built-in amp: and a teeny-tiny LCD... now we're talking... |
