The ‘A’ in the LifeBook A6030’s model name stands for ‘Aspire’, but it could just as easily be short for ‘All-rounder’

Like the similarly priced Sony, it’s designed for users that want a notebook that stands out in a crowd, but, while the VAIO CR is all bright glossy colours and flashing lights, the Fujitsu is more conservative, with a matte white casing that’s distinctive without crossing the line into ostentatious.

This makes the LifeBook A6030 equally suited for boardroom and bedroom use, and it ticks all the right tech boxes with its 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 chip, 1GB of RAM and 120GB hard drive. It also sneaks in a few advanced features like support for 802.11n wireless networking, five USB ports and both PC Card and ExpressCard slots.

A PCMark05 score of 3,732 demonstrates that it’s a solid workhorse for multi-tasking between email, web browsing and working on Office documents, but the integrated Intel GMA X3100 graphics mean you won’t be using it for gaming any time soon. Nor is the LifeBook A6030’s battery life particularly distinctive, scoring a below-average one hour, 45 minutes run-time in the DVD run-down test.
