Dell custom PC case designs going global

Dell will be offering access to its Design Studio globally starting in December.

I have never had the insatiable need to customize my notebook like some users. I would prefer a notebook with more power on the inside and less bling on the outside. Some users want both and to cater to the notebook buyer that is looking to pick not only what goes inside a notebook, but the style of the machine as well Dell offers its Dell Design Studio Center.

Dell buyers in the U.S. have been able to use the Design Studio Center to customize the exterior of the Studio 15 and Studio 17 notebooks for a while now. The world's number two computer maker has announced that it has added new designs to the Design center for users to choose from and will be adding more based on themes chosen by different curators.

Above: Dell Studio "Pyramid in Fall" design. We reckon it would have been better named "Californian psychadelic stoner" but that's just us. Thankfully there are nicer ones than that also available.

The first theme that shoppers will get to choose designs from is called "Today" which features a collection of modern art. Dell says that the new additions mean that there are now more than 120 new designs that the U.S. shopper can choose.

Dell customers in other countries may be annoyed that they don’t get to use the Design Center to customize notebooks, but that will soon change. Dell says that it will be rolling the custom Design Center out to users in other countries over the coming months. Starting in December users around the globe will be able to choose from the classic designs that were part of the original Design Studio launch.

As long as you can still get a black ones, not all of us want something that looks like the leftovers after the dog had a tummy turn.

As one of the Short-Sighted (where am I?) I must admit to going for brightly coloured personal objects - it means I can actually find them! Give me more neon Pink! Electric Blue! Neutral colours = invisible.

I don't see the point of this artyfarty nonsense on laptops. Solid colours, yes, understandable, a hot pink laptop brightens everyone's day... but sometimes Art goes out of date quicker than the computer itself.

Perhaps Dell should have a Design-A-Laptop Lid thing... you can upload your own art, or photos of your kids\dog\cat\train\plane\self to use on it's lid. I wouldn't say no to a laptop with my mug on it: be hard to steal.

Oh please no!! As if the IT day doesn't already force us to endure enough cheesy baby photos.
