New Z series notebooks get Intel ULV processors and nice price tags.

The last time we talked about new computers from Dell, it was those cutesy little Nickelodeon netbooks for kids that were the topic. Today Dell has unveiled a new line of Z series notebooks that are aimed at an older crowd that wants a notebook with features and power.

The new line of notebooks includes the Dell Inspiron 15z and the 14z. The two machines are virtual twins with the only difference being that the 15z is a 15.6-inch machine and the 14z is a 14-inch machine. Both the notebooks have the same 25.4mm profile making them very thin and portable.

Under the cover of the notebooks hides a choice of CPUs including Intel Pentium Core 2 Solo ULV, Core 2, and Core 2 Duo processors. Dell offers up to 500GB of 7,200-rpm storage and up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM in each system. Wi-Fi is standard and mobile broadband is optional on both notebooks.

The stock battery is a 4-cell unit with four hours of runtime with a 6-cell eight-hour battery as an option. A pair of Express Charge batteries are also optional with 4-cell and 6-cell units able to recharge to 80% capacity in only an hour. The systems will be offered initially in the US in red or black colors for $US599 ($AUD698) but will ship to Australia soon.
