Dell unveils bright, budget-friendly Inspiron desktops

New Inspiron mini-tower and slim slab desktops get a fresh look, colourful faceplates and ramp up to Core 2 Duo at the entry-level.

One week after launching its most expensive laptop – the $3,700+ Adamo – Dell has revamped its budget desktops and pegged the starting price to a GFC-friendly $799.

The new Inspiron desktops borrow a page from Dell’s Studio series with a much cleaner design and the choice of eight coloured faceplates available on both mini-tower and slim form factor systems.

A bit of flash for not too much cash: the new Inspiron desktops ship in both mini-tower (above)
and slim-line (below) boxes, with a choice of eight faceplate colours

Slotting in just above the current entry-level $749 Inspiron 530, that extra $50 on the sticker gets you a far more stylish system and a Core 2 Duo processor in place of the 530’s Pentium dual-core.

Up-scale models include a Core 2 Quad powerplant and discrete ATI Radeon graphics. Also on the tick-a-box list of options is HDMI connectivity and a Blu-Ray combo drive.

Dell is pitching the systems to “style-minded families, students and teens” with popular yet low-impact usage such as “email, Internet, blogging, movies, music, casual gaming and productivity.”

Does anyone actually want a PC face-place the same colour as a urinal cake?
I'd often wondered the same thing when Ford added a similar colour to their range, but I had always considered that examples seen in the wild must have been "last one available" purchases rather than any actual customer choice.
Guess there must be someone out there that wants a PC to tone in with their science experiment.

Other than the tacky colors the Dell's look like a good value for money update at the entry price workhorse level.

Some people actually take great delight in the colour green - yellow mixture. I'd have to agree with you it does look a bit takky. The Inspiron Laptops also included that greenish colour to their palette. I guess they're just trying to cater for everybody? =-)

That sharp 'lime green' (or near-lime) is in fact quite popular at the moment... quite a few cars in it (my Mum actually chose it for her new Peugeot!) and a LOT of the incoming clothing has elements of lime, including a lot of lime + soft grey for the ladies (racks of it at Ted Baker in London last month)... so that, plus the desire to really brighten up a room and lift the dull blackness of an LCD monitor, should help make the green a popular choice. It'd certainly be my first pick after white or black.

dull blackness?
My monitor brightly displays a continual stream of colored and informative images, even illuminates the room. If your monitor remains dull & black it may well be switched off or faulty.. :>
