New Inspiron mini-tower and slim slab desktops get a fresh look, colourful faceplates and ramp up to Core 2 Duo at the entry-level.
One week after launching its most expensive laptop – the $3,700+
Adamo – Dell has revamped its budget desktops and pegged the starting price to a GFC-friendly $799.
The new Inspiron desktops borrow a page from Dell’s Studio series with a much cleaner design and the choice of eight coloured faceplates available on both mini-tower and slim form factor systems.
A bit of flash for not too much cash: the new Inspiron desktops ship in both mini-tower (above)
and slim-line (below) boxes, with a choice of eight faceplate coloursSlotting in just above the current entry-level $749 Inspiron 530, that extra $50 on the sticker gets you a far more stylish system and a Core 2 Duo processor in place of the 530’s Pentium dual-core.
Up-scale models include a Core 2 Quad powerplant and discrete ATI Radeon graphics. Also on the tick-a-box list of options is HDMI connectivity and a Blu-Ray combo drive.
Dell is pitching the systems to “style-minded families, students and teens” with popular yet low-impact usage such as “email, Internet, blogging, movies, music, casual gaming and productivity.”
