Dynamism Viliv X70: netbook meets mobile internet tablet

The Viliv X70 offers netbook internals with a MID form factor.

I would take a netbook over a typical touchscreen-only mobile internet device (MID) any day personally. However, some out there favor a sleek design and ultimate portability over the  functionality of a real physical keyboard. For that type of person, Dynamism is offering up a new MID called the Viliv X70 that I will admit is dead sexy. Still, if I had a tablet hankering I'd go with the Eee T91.

The MID uses a tablet form factor and gives up a real keyboard in favor of a smartphone-like on screen touch keyboard. The 7-inch WSVGA touchscreen has a resolution of 1024 x 600 and the machine is packed with features you might find in any netbook on the market.

The X70 is available with either an Intel Atom Z515 at 1.2GHz or an Atom Z520 at 1.3GHz. Storage options include a 16GB SSD or 32GB SSD and the machine sports 1GB of RAM. The operating system is Windows XP Home with a customized Cube UI touch interface and haptic feedback technology built-in (the machine provides short vibration as feedback when you touch the screen).

Other features of the machine include an optional 3G HSPA modem for mobile browsing, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, GPS, and more. The manufacturer claims the device can play video for 5.5 hours per charge and offers 150 hours of standby time via its 29Wh lithium polymer battery. The little MID measures in at 210mm W x 117mm H x 22.5mm D and it weighs 660g.

An exact ship date for the X70 is unknown, but pricing will start at $US599 ($AU744). Nobody's selling them in Australia yet that we're aware of, so buying one would have to be a self-import mail order job.
