BenQ's soon-to-be released XL2410T is exciting gamers with its list of amazing features. We found one being tested by a pro gamer from Team Immunity, so we dragged him into our lab

We've been hearing about the yet-to-be-released BenQ  XL2410T for a while now. It's a 23.6in monitor created by BenQ specifically for gaming, with a set of features to make gamers drool. But unlike other gamer dream machines, such as the Dell UltraSharp U2711, this machine is going to be affordable, the reason it's so hotly anticipated. While pricing around the world is yet to be announced, the monitor is expected to retail in Australia for AUD$699.

The monitor is not expected to be released until early December, but when we heard through the grapevine that BenQ was having a prototype tested in Australia by Team Immunity, a pro gaming team that BenQ partly sponsors, we pounced. We asked Team Immunity member Alex Garon to come into our APC labs to show us the monitor's coolest features. He put it through its paces in front of our eyes - and a video camera.

Star gamer, Alex Garon (plagueske), from Team Immunity

The BenQ  XL2410T is a gamer's tour-de-force, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, LED backlighting, and 2ms  response time - as well as heaps of gaming modes, the capacity to display video from two sources at the same time and the ability to be adjusted  to just about any angle.

In our videos below, Alex Garon runs up Counter-Strike 1.6 and explains why this monitor is exciting gamers everywhere.

IMPACT OF THE 120Hz SCREEN REFRESH

The monitor's refresh rate is how many times a second the screen redraws itself. The 120Hz refresh rate is double the 60Hz rate of most LCD screens and helps make the action smoother. Alex says it's one of the most important features of this new monitor. It's also necessary for 3D, which splits the screen into two 60Hz ones beamed to different eyes.

THE EFFECTS OF LED BACKLIGHTING

LED backlighting means the XL2410T can produce very deep blacks and high contrast ratios. Alex shows why this is important when pursuing enemies in dark situations.

IMPACT OF 2MS RESPONSE TIME

The XL2410T has an unbelievably fast 2 millisecond screen response time. For gaming LCD monitors, it doesn't get any faster than that. Alex explains why this is important in gaming.

CHANGING SCREEN RES ON THE FLY

A unique feature of the XL2410T is that it gives the gamer the ability to change screen resolution on the fly.

DISPLAY TWO VIDEO SOURCES AT ONCE

Why is this important to gamers? Well, when you get bored you can watch something else at the same time.

AMAZING MANEOUVRABILITY

The XL2410T's stand is extremely adjustable, enabling the game to position just how they want it. Alex and the guys get carried away with the portrait view, and run up the world's longest on-screen Word document.

DIFFERENT SCREEN MODES

Alex demonstrates the monitor's screen modes, which run from full, aspect, overscan and 1:1 to 17in; 19in; 19in widescreen and 22in widescreen.

SENSEYE FEATURE

Senseye is a proprietary BenQ image enhancement technology, which BenQ claims optimises contrast and sharpness, giving better clarity and depth. Alex checks it out.

Good. That's the gamers taken care of.

For those of us who just need large monitor, I hope BenQ produce a 29 to 30 inch 2560 x 1440 monitor to give HP and Dell some competition.

P.S. Apple's 27 inch cinema monitor is a bit too small for 2560 x 1440 resolution.

We ain't taken care of until 1920x1200 120hz :p
the extra 120 pixels are benefit every single PC use situation. You can fit two Windows 7 task bars or a few browser tabs and the office ribbon menus, old games like 1600x1200, RTS games, even FPS games give you more immersion with the extra height. Only movies will benefit from 1080.

Also, 120hz is not just for the gamers. Many reviewers of these new 120hz monitors claim there is a huge difference in Windows compared to 60hz. Smoother mouse movement, windows movement and animations.

Good point. I had a 75Hz monitor at work at one stage and the difference between the 75 and 60 hz modes was noticeable.
So I'll add 120Hz to the specs of my desired 30 inch monitor.

I agree. I'd buy this monitor today if it was 1920x1200 120hz.

I want a 27inch 2560x1440 600mhz plasma pc screen lol.
3d on plasma is very close to the cinema's effect. (which i think is what we are all after).
The lcd's are still just to slow, the lcd tv's in stores are 200mhz and are not even close to the plasmas yet, so what is 120mhz going to do for you, it will do 3d, not well but it will do it, maybe for showing of your new 3d camera with still shots is its port of calling. As for 3d movies.
I would not waste the money, get a 27inch lcd enjoy normal blue rays on the extra size and put the extra $250 towards a 3d plasma tv.
It feels like the changeover point did for crt to lcd at the minute, it does it all, just poorly i think. could 240mhz for lcd's make them better, time will tell.

OK a few points here. All TV's only have 60Hz input. Period. Even plasmas. Plasmas do have a fast redraw time (600Hz not MHz) but the input can only be 60Hz input. This means that any faster output is the TV interpolating the output to try and make up for the slow signal. If the signal is from a PC you will want that off because it causes increased input lag. The 120Hz monitors do allow a 120Hz input which is huge in games and has not been seen since CRT's. I have a 22" Samsung 120Hz and can't wait for the next line of 27" models which are just around the corner, although this BenQ is tempting. Trust me if you game buy a 120Hz model and thank me later! Also the 2560x1440 rez is stupid for gaming, especially 3D gaming. The rez is just too hard to output with good frame rates especially with 3D which already takes a big FPS hit.

Finally a monitor that can replace my 19inch crt that I use for gaming. Using an lcd for games like counter strike was an exercise in frustration.

lol not heard counter strike and awesome graphics in the same sentence before.
Any decent monitor has the height angle and swivel adjustment stand, only the cheap crap is locked in place.
