Q. I'm lost. Everything used to work fine. I use XP, Crazy Browser (even used Flock browser - same problem). When I download a .pps file, it downloads till about 90%, and then it hangs the download. Same if I open file or save to disk. If I open the downloaded portion, it says PowerPoint cannot read the file. Downloading other files such as docs, wmv, jpg etc., is not a problem. I have tried all I know. What is wrong?

Hello,
I'm not too sure why it hangs the download, but have you checked if the pps file you are downloading is compatible with the office you're using? Sometimes, for me, I've noticed that Office '03 can't open up '07 documents and powerpoints. You've got to make sure they're compatible
Don't think I helped too much, but good luck

Hi there Most files will only open if they are 100% complete. Downloading a portion of the file will unfortunately not give you a portion of the file in the application you use to open it.
This could be the result of a number of possible reasons. If everything else downloads ok, there is a high possibility that the problem is at the server end and not yours. A few things you can try which will eliminate a few possibilities: 1. Try downloading another pps file and see if the same thing happens. If it doesn't, it is possible that the source file on the server is corrupted in someway
2. Try downloading from another computer (if possible), see if the problem is replicated on a different machine. If it is, once again possibly a corrupted file. If it isn't, the problem may rest with your machine. In that case, you could try one of the following:
a. If you are selecting "open file" from within your browser, try the "save as" option and see if that helps. If could be something related to how your browser interacts with Powerpoint
b. Not sure what browsers you are using, but make an attempt with different browsers. Also try reinstalling your browser software and ensure that it is up-to-date.
That is about all I can think of. As I said, it sounds like the problem may rest with the location you are downloading from.
Hope this helps

Something that would definitely help is downloading a 'pps' file from another domain completely unrelated to the one you're having trouble with. Also, scan your computer for viruses that could be preventing the download.

I occasionaly have issues with the downloading incomplete files as well, and the first thing I do is clear the Temporary Internet Files (what firefox calls offline storage) and then do the download again usually I have no more problems with downloading. If you still have problems delete the cookies.
I have not had any trouble with downloads when I clear both cookies and the temporary files.
