It works on the Optus network and so it is as reliable as the Optus network.

Raindog is quite correct about the complaints made by Dodo customers, so be warned.

On the other hand, my mother has been using Dodo dial-up for several years and without problem (except, of course, for the connection speed). I recently purchased Dodo mobile for her. It cost $150 for the modem and I purchased a pre-paid plan for her - $20 for 1Gig over 60 days with a bonus 250Meg over 30 days. When installed, it meant that she is given the first 250Meg over the first 30 days followed by the purchased 1Gig over the next 60 days ie 1.25G over 90 days. That is really quite outstanding value! And there is no contract!

I plug into everything like USB.

I'm afraid if it's on Optus, I can't really call that reliable. Many people have had issues with Optus - ranging from slow speeds to no 3G coverage and constant disconnections. You only have to do a little research on Optus to find threads even on this forum deploring Optus' grade of service.

Some people reckon they've outpriced themselves, that they're under-investing in their 3G network and thus causing overload. It's inherent in every wireless system that there's a certain amount of airtime and bandwidth available in the cell and it has to be shared with all users - so speed will definitely vary depending on where you are and the loading.

However, more annoying is the disconnections. There is a thread here about Optus Prepaid Disconnections - they charge in 10Mb blocks per connection and if you get dropped from the service, you lose at least 10Mb each go. Not sure if Dodo has such a thing - but Dodo has been known for the "fine print".

So the only way to find out whether it's okay is to actually get it and use it I'm afraid. Some people would find it acceptable for what they're paying for it - and they probably aren't posting online. Usually it's those super-satisfied, and dissatisfied that whinge about it online - so don't take what you see to be a complete representation of how good or bad it might be. Just don't expect about say 400kbit/s especially in busy city/high density areas.
