I would if I had the links, I am more refering to looking on the manufactureres sites at whats supported and whats not. As for the big names, my place or work is the areas warranty and repair base for HP, Dell and Acer as well as a few smaller mobs and its a very common issue that we see when laptops come in "Not Working" to find RAM not specified by the vendor. Pull it out and presto.
de_nerd wrote: If it uses SATA HDD then you will need the driver for you SATA controller..... Yes, but not always still a valid question more than statement. This is quite a common issue with weird combo designs coming out now. Not all but some do require special drivers or pre-installation tools to get a system to see or load to a HDD (or other media formats).

Acer Aspire One 150 (120gb hard drive) Windows XP install. I have a licence but the CD was sp1 so I had tried x2 copies of XP cds with SP2 written on them (from a friend). After I'd calmed down from my frustration of not getting anywhere and seemingly running out of options I took a look at the contents of the CD's and they were only XP pro SP1 !
Resolution from 000000X07 error: I slipstreamed SP3 onto my XP install using Nlite (free program) then tried again... all went through no problems. I'm going to assume this is due to the updated pack of chipset and IDE controllers. Either way, It works and i'm guessing that an XP SP2 disc would also work as I believe this would contain the required files.
Any more questions about this or if anyone gets stuck i'll try and help.
*goes away and beats himself for trusting someone elses hand written cds..

Hi Kev, I also have an acer aspire one, and i know how to 'repair' it, the thing is that if you try to boot windows with something (usb dvd reader, usb pendrive, usb hard drive, etc.) attached to an usb hub, that bluescreen will appear, just wait for your netboot to start booting and then it will work out (i guess, i just have this problem with an usb hard drive).
Good luck with your problem

Acually its More of a bios issue.
The SATA drive is set to ASCI which is a system that was made way after windows Xp sp3.
You need to go into the bios screen and set the SATA to normal IDE reading.
Once you do that the blue screen of death will disapear.....
One more problem you will face is that the ACER drivers are only in the Vista program Therefore you will have to duel boot your drive and take the drivers from the vista folder before you can erase vista.
Here is a nice walkthrough

I can confirm that this fixes the problem (on my aspire one 532 at least...). this is such a simple fix i spent about 3 hours looking for...

It's actually 2gig of ram it have 512meg onboard though os only a 1gig stick can be added equalling 1.5gig of ram.
Also had the freeze at Bios screen when a external is plugged in no idea why however never had a BSOD from it, i have actually never had a problem with this laptop windows7 installs like a dream and installs all drivers i wouldn't waste my time on XP just upgrade your memory from 1gig to 1.5gig you will be amazed at what 500meg does.
Chris.
