do you think windows vista is a failure?

many people think so....but i don't see why. a lot of people say that windows XP is BETTER than windows vista there are many reasons why windows vista is good, but here are the basics: THE BOOT UP SCREEN: i noticed that in windows xp, if you were to boot up your computer in safe mode, it would show you the ADMINISTRATORS account to login to recover your computer, which is bad news if a potential hacker were to have physical access to your computer. GRAPHICS: of course, windows vista would have better graphics than windows xp, thats natural, cause it was made about 6-8 years later than windows XP, so very different looks are common. SECURITY: for one thing, security is a big thing in windows vista. the UAC, [user account control] is VERY helpful. if a harmful program was installed on your computer without your knowledge, and you clicked on the application to run it, it could automatically delete very important files or disable your filewall. so every time you do something that could or may harm yourself, UAC pops up a windows saying something like "are you sure you want to do this?" which is quite helpful, as if you clicked on a game you downloaded, say halo for example, and UAC pops up and says you are now currently modifying you firewall options. so obviously you'll know somethings up. windows defender is aslo a good contribution to help keep your computer safe. it keeps up with the latest known virus's and/or harmful software. and if it finds it, it will quarantine that file /program, so that it will no longer be able to harm your computer. WINDOWS SIDEBAR/GADGETS: this is all on personal opinion, but you gotta admit, those gadgets are pretty awesome. it may take up a little CPU , but it can still be a good shortcut to files,websites, and for quick notes, and even the temperature outside. all in all, if you still have windows XP, i HIGHLY recommend that you upgrade to windows Vista. for security and for personal use, in my personal opinion, is much better. please comment if you think windows vista is better than XP or vise-versa. or comment if you think you disagree with me. I have to agree with you to an extent. We have Vista at school and it runs well without any lag or unresponsiveness, but all we use it for is word and firefox (except that time "accidentally" ran a looping batch file and the school ended up with a crashed server...). i have only used it at school though, so I don't really know much about it. One thing I do know is that UAC is really annoying when you try and muck around with the computer!

Sp33d d3mon Give Vista a Fist-a New user 121 posts Posted: 31/05/2009 8:05 PM	How about waiting for Windows 7. I use the RC on my MacBook on a day to day basis, and it is far more responsive than Vista. Only thing is I can't play GTA-san andreas. :(

Affirmative, Windows Vista has been a complete failure since day one. Microsoft has a pending Class Action lawsuit to answer for, everyone in the computer industry knew vista was a complete failure too. Windows XP is still working great, there is no need to move to another OS, unless the successor of Vista is worthy to buy if it can fulfil the requirements of Reliability, Better license for up to 5 computers (minimum) for family or personal use and Price the ultimate version should be sold for $100. After all, Microsoft will make more money. With Windows 7 approaching to a release date in October or early November this year, to market the finished product, its still early to tell if it will become a success or not. There are some issues with the latest build of the RC, drivers and software compatibility, yet if Microsoft push ahead without proper functionality, then the replacement of Vista is also doomed. Is sheer stupidity to push the computer parts manufacturers to work on a stable driver, this has been the same mistake Microsoft did with Vista. Wait for more details to come later and see for yourself if this can be a reliable step, then you can safely buy the finished product.

As some1 who did fall for the whole VISTA is much more superior than XP & fell for all the bells & whisltes i cant believe what a waste of time & money buying vista was, Microsft is a multi multi million dollar company the nice thing to do would be offer a refund for people that disgruntled with vista they went back to the original superior os XP & for some1 who had a computer that was built for vista microsoft could reimburse me for trying to find compatiable drivers for my machine which wasnt easy..,Also how long will it be b4 microsoft pull all support for Xp to the point where people will have to go with Windows 7 wether we want to or not..

Wait, your saying that its stupid of microsoft to ask manufacturors to write new drivers for a new OS? Or is it more that Microsoft should write code that makes all drivers work no matter what? (will never happen and is dangerous) Companies used Vista as a way of basically Killing off some of there product lines so they did not have to support them anymore. Their where major problems that microsoft introduced with Vista for drivers and programmers alike. Vista was a failure, but microsoft have a pretty big job keeping as much legacy support as possiblee (over 10 years worth of software and hardware) whilst also improving how the drivers and software works with the OS. I have mentioned before that if Microsoft was able to do an OS from a clean slate and not have to worry about legacy support, then they would have no excuse for a POS software with driver problems and the like.

hi, i totally agree with you, i would be more than happy to return my copy of vista for a refund as i went back to using xp and i think people in our situation should get a refund. i was disappointed with vista and i cannot use it, it is packed away in my cupboard. i think that after taking so many years to develop this operating system, microsoft should be ashamed to unleash this defective product onto the community, i demand a refund.

Unlike many other people, I prefer Vista over XP. I currently have a desktop that came with Vista Ultimate installed and a laptop that I upgraded from XP Home to Vista Home Premium. Mind you, I bought a copy of Vista for the laptop and then waited 18 months before I took the risk of installing it. This made sure that all of the required drivers and application updates were available. As for the question, "Is Vista a failure?" that answer depends on how you define "failure". It most certainly is a marketing failure for MS. As well, Vista Ultimate is certainly an ethics failure for MS (remember the promised extras and specials that have never been delivered!). "Vista Capable" is also an ethics failure by MS and its partners. As an income stream, it would also seem that Vista is a failure for MS. As for whether Vista is a success or failure as an OS, that's a more difficult question to answer. I quite like Vista and I've been one of the lucky people to have little no problems with it. However, I have modern hardware in my computers. I'd not want to be running bloated Vista on old hardware!

vista as a success or failure is a very hard question to debate on. but clearly xp is better. more time to fix bugs. easier to use. pretty basic outlook. vista i think was more of a 'prettyness' factor for micro. i think they were aiming for a better looking os than performance wise. this is where vista is most flawed: - directx 10 - compatability (now its becoming usable) - Frequent crashes and problems for advanced/power users. - lack of ram, in some basic computers, led to slower overall performance. my friend had a vista os computer. took them 21 min to load up. it took over 12 hours to copy a 1gb file. comp specs were approx. 4gb ram, AMD 6000+, 1x 7500rpm hdd @ 500gb (other way round :O) and after i re-installed vista, in a fresh install. updated drivers, etc. they had the same except slightly less of a problem. so i checked out whether it was the way they used it and that was making some of the problems. but. after fixing all that and showing them how to cclean scan free space, etc. the boot time was 8 mins minimum. therefore also revealing that fact of most of the computer owners, who dont really know that much bout pc's and just use them for internet, email, word processing, etc. who generally have the most problems. but then again, at the beginning xp did have many problems too. but overall definantly wins the fight.

I don't see the Vista product as a failure. I have Vista on my laptop and it runs fine. The machine itself is nothing special I think the main problem lies in the overall environment. MS stalled and started with Longhorn for so long that other companies just decided to sit back and wait rather than have their stuff ready to go because they really didn't know when the launch date would be. When the day arrived and people had Vista on their machines, the drivers weren't there. Everybody blames MS for this. Add to that the short term profits to be made by not supplying these drivers to support older hardware in the hope of selling new printers etc instead. I think people are still hurting after the XP_sp2 debacle and are just using Vista to continue sledging MS.
