Anyone got any thoughts on what the best wired laser mouse is? I've had it with wireless mice... they are always running out of batteries at inconvenient times (yes, even the rechargeable ones that I inevitably forget to recharge ;)
I'm just after one that's a fairly traditional Microsoft mouse shape (not something obscenely scoopy and curved as the most expensive ones seem to be these days), with back/forward buttons on the side and a scroll wheel that tilts horizontally as well.
(And yes it has to be laser... I used an optical one recently and the tracking was horrible compared to laser.)

I'd suggest the Microsoft Memory Mouse 8000. Yes, I know it's cordless, but it's also rechargeable, and you can run the thin cable from the underside of the mouse to the USB dongle-thing and keep using the mouse while it charges (I actually did this today). At the flick of a switch it runs on Bluetooth so you can use your laptop's mostly-unused Bluetooth radio and free up a USB port (at least until it's time to recharge the rodent). And while the design is scoopy/curvey I find that makes it very comfy and ergonomic. And it looks dead smart.
Otherwise, if you really must have a cable laser mouse, I've tested quite a few notebook mice and really think in that category they're much of a muchness, as long as you steer clear of the cheap Chinatown brands of course.

I could totally see you using the Zalman FG-1000.
Seriously though, I think you should stump for either the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, which is amusingly huge, or even better the Logitech G5.
The G5 is flogged as a gaming mouse, but ignore that. It's the most comfortable mouse I've ever used. There's a caveat, however. As it's a gaming mouse, the "Sleep" mode (low power mode when the mouse isn't being moved) is disabled, so it'll suck max juice 24/7, which might be a minor issue if you go around unplugged most of the time.

I loved the hell out of my IntelliMouse (1.0), and once it went to mousey heaven, went out and replaced it with another IntelliMouse, version 2.0 this time. It was bundled with a steel mousepad for the gamers, and worked terribly. The high reflectivity on the surface tracked horribly with the mouse, and as a whole it was a bad, bad combination of products. I tried the mousepad with a few other laser mice and they all worked like a charm, so I ended up doing away with the hand-bendingly huge IntelliMouse 2.0 and replacing it with a Logitech.
I've used the latest IntelliMouse, and it's heaps better than the 2.0.. but I'll stick with the Logitech G5 for now I reckon.

Take a look at the Microsoft Habu and if you match it with the Reclusa keyboard you'll begin to imagine living in the world of Tron.

I use a Logitech LX3 - works for me, I don't game. Good price, comfortable, I use it on naked wood, on my knee and even on the cat when it tries to help.
