I tried a few online video downloaders for sites like youtube and so on. What freeware or non-freeware software would you recommend that actually work on any online video site?

Hi Andrew :) The one I use mainly for this stuff is "VideoDownloadHelper" which you have to use with Mozilla Firefox. The files come down as .flv files which are basically flash movies. of course then you have to have a Flash Player and this one comes from [url=http://www.applian.com] You just go there and look through their download section and grab the free player. The DownloadHelper is an Add-on from Firefox and you can download that from their site. Hope this helps you and many hours of fun come your way :) THe Big Baboo

I also suggest VDH that Bib Babboo suggested.
As well, I also recommend that you use Firefox with YouPlayer for YouTube. It works very well.

Hi Andrew: I suggest you to use these tools: Flashgot DownThemAll (these are add ons for Mozilla Firefox browser, first click the Tools menu on the Firefox browser, click the Add-ons a window will open with 4 options, click the Get Add-ons icon, click the Browse All Add-ons link; then search for the above two mentioned) the last one is called "FormatFactory" get this at http://www.formatoz.com/ See for yourself what it can do for you. Cheers

I agree Halcon, FormatFactory is a fantastic program. It's quite remarkable that it is also free.

Halcon wrote: Glad to know you like it :) Hi "Halcon" :) Just had a quick look and download of that "Format Factory" :) Does it do everything automatically? I basically want to convert .swf files to .wmv and I had actually bought a program called "NHS File Converter" but the damn thing has stopped working for me and I can't find where I put the CD and Booklet :( So it's gone back to an un-registered version and I couldn't use it anymore ? I'll give this a try and let you know how I get on :) Thanks for your input :)

If I understand your question, then all you have to do is drag files that you want to convert into the pane (Source, Size etc) and then click "All to WMV". FF will then automatically convert all your files.

Thanks for that "petert" I've downloaded the program and installed it but haven't used it yet because all the files I want to convert are on another drive and believe me they're stating to add up.
Also is there a way of changing the way Media Player displays files because lately all I seem to be able to get is a small window ( 320x240 pixels ) in the middle of the screen ?
Before I used to be able to watch most of these files full screen but that doesn't seem to be happening any more :(
Thanks again for your help.

I am not sure if this is the answer to your question. In the bottom right corner of WMP is a small square box with an arrow inside it pointing to the top right corner. Clicking on that icon expands the display to full screen.
