hey all, i need help finding a good psu for my system. im building a mid-high end pc with an AMD PHENOM II X4 955, 2 Amaze ATI HD4890s, a Corsair Dominator 4GB kit, all mounted on an MSI 790FX-GD70 and installed in the Antec TWELVE HUNDRED. i want some help and suggestions for a good psu for my system, i've been looking toward the 1000w psu's because i want one that i wont need to upgrade from for a while.

if you have any suggestions, please feel free to leave your comment.

thanks for reading.

Bloodknife,

Given you are going Crossfire and using a high-end CPU, my suggestion would be to look at either an Antec CP-850 (compatable with a Twelve Hundred Case, only), or a Corsair 850 also. Either a HX850 or TX850 (depending on budget) would also suffice.

If you wnated to go any higher, as you suggested, to a 1000W supply, my recommendations would be either Antec or Seasonic, perhaps Corsair again, depending upon budget and you future intentions.

I'm looking for a new PSU too, something that will do SLI with two 275's and an i7 upgrade soon, so they are my choices currently.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

I suggest before you buy a PSSU for a system that you find out exactly how much the system will consume and make sure that when you apply the data include all the upgrade options you can possibly see in the future.

I use the handy utility online that is located http://www.antec.outervision.com/PSUEngine
this I have found to be quite good, when looking at getting a new PSSU I was thinking I might need a 850watt unit but running the figures thru this found I could use a 650watt PSSU and still have a large overhead for extra hdd's, fans etc.

As far as brands go I use Antec, Tagen, Seasonic, Corsair and Thermaltake and I have had no issues with any of these brands.

There a number of websites that specialise in writeups on Power Supplies and some go to the extent of testing the powersupply to it's maximum ratings, and pull the thing appart and comment on soldering and other details.

i have found Tagan to be a good and reliable brand myself.

that- and they are fairly cheap, compared to the other high- end brand names

an 850 watter should do the job, but 1000 watts would not hurt either
