Hi,

XP Home cannot log on to a DOMAIN. I have an ASUS NetBook 1000HE that I'd like to use in a DOMAIN LAN environment. I can see all network printers and computers from MY NETWORK PLACES on the ASUS running XP Home. I have access to an XP Pro with SP3 CD and would like to map (on the ASUS PC) a shared CD/DVD draw from a PC I can see and upgrade it to XP Pro that way (in order to add it to a domain)? I realise I could also connect an external optical drive to it and do it that way but don't have 1 at the moment.

Does anyone see any problems I could have with this technique OR with the ASUS 1000HE running XP PRO? The 1000HE is capable of running 2 GB RAM and I'll be upgrading it from it's 1 GB as well.

Does anyone have another way of doing this?

Thank You

from memory,

I did not think you could upgrade from home to Pro, but that could be faulty memory. :)

The comp will run it, i recommend jsut getting an external DVD drive and booting to that rather then accross the network. You will have no problems with drivers.

*EDIT* I was wrong, you can upgrade from home to pro.

You should have not problems doing it accross the network drive then. :)

Hi gankul - Thanks for the post. I attached an old IBM X20 external drive to the ASUS and it upgraded to XP Pro perfectly well and I'm on the domain. Cheers.
