Hello all,
This is a small problem (it's more of an annoyance, really) that I have. Whenever I log into my hotmail account, Windows Live places Messenger into my list of startup programs. Using the 'msconfig' utility I can simply remove it, but only to see it reappear when I check my e-mails again - annoying!.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this? any help would be appreciated.

I think you can change the settings in windows messenger and tell it not to start at startup.

You can, but every patch or update has it defaulted back to it's annoying best.

So you are telling me that I cannot fix this permanently? I can only alter this temporarily and then wait until a new update to Messenger is released to see the settings be reset once again? if so, damn...

assuming that windows messenger uses the registry to launch itself at startup (opposed to using the startup folder), you could simply create a batch file to remove the registry entry. for this to work, you would have to run it at logoff/shutdown but I don't know how to do this. Is there some kind of shutdown folder (like the startup folder) which runs stuff at shutdown in windows?

Hello:
Your problem is easy to fix, if you have Windows Live Messenger, Log on to Messenger. Then click on your User Name (per example "Superman") Available button. There is a context menu click on Options. Go to Sign In section, Uncheck "Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows". "Allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet" should be checked, this means a tick in the little box. After this click on the Apply button to make your change permanent. Click the Windows start menu, select the Startup, make sure there is no shortcut to Windows Live Messenger otherwise, delete it. This should do fine, there is nothing to worry about, I have got no trouble with this approach. Good luck! Cheers.
