what do you mean by 'vista networking'? if you're just taking about normal lans, then the short answer is yes but if you're talking about homegroups, vista won't be able to use them. i'm sure, though, that 3rd party software will be created to use homegroups on vista :)

I have used the betas as well as the win7 RC for some time and networking the win7 PC as realy easy, I use a number of different OS's here and I had no trouble what so ever getting win7 to work. It connected to PC's running Windows XP pro, Windows 2000, Debian Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Suse Linux and Mac OSx.
I have since sold the test (win 7) PC so cannot tell you if it was a home group or not.

I doubt it was a home group. They are great if you have all of your PCs at home running seven, but In my case, XP is still not dead and as such i decided not to go the homegroup option. I have had no trouble getting 7 to Join a server 03 domain, although changing users can be a pain, as with vista, as you have to click the "change user" button, then click the "other user" button, then enter your credentials, unless you were the last user to logon to that machine. Also, you have to type in your domainname\administrator unless you only want to be a local admin, which is easy to forget when most of the machines are still running xp. But apart from all that, 7 is great at playing ball with other os's.
