I have been selling PCs for over 13 years now, so why am I disappointed each time MS releases a new version. Perhaps it is because I live in hope. The scenario is a customer has a PC which meets the Win7 min. req. so I sell him a new HDD and Win7. I go to install it for him and I get "[Windows 7 DVD FATAL BOOT ERROR] CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 5" After a lot of testing and research it turns out the Windows 7 DVD will not boot on a good percentage of mainboards older than a year old. This is known by Microsoft but they don't care. Seems a bit odd as isn't that a large slice of the market? (there are a few work arounds, but why should we?)

This sounds very strange, did you tried with another brand of DVD drive? When I tried the RC I had no trouble, so for the polished release version there should not be anything to cause this trouble. The issue you have, as I said above maybe the drive, not the Motherboard. The other thing could be a faulty disk, try with another disk to isolate the cause of the problem.
Cheers!

and by "research", do you mean perusing microsoft- bashing forums- or actual places that will help you diagnose hardware issues?
tbh- the last good windows OS(until 7) i found was windows 95- believe it or not, errors were practically unheard of back then.
but windows 7 was tested by over 15 million people worldwide, and so errors like this will have been spotted and addressed. try browsing some microsoft certified websites, such as: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro/
also please note that i am using a 14 month old motherboard with a 3 year old DVD player and Hard Drive, and i am yet to see a legitimate issue with windows 7 that breaks the OS?
