In October 2010 I obtained a copy of Viso 2010 Beta and installed it. I did not use it much, just enough to get to know it. In February 2011 I was sent some Visio files which I needed to open. The software then said that the Beta copy was no longer valid, so I un-installed it, from Control Panel. I then purchased Visio Standard 2010 but it will not install, giving the message that a previous 2010 version of an Office product could not be upgraded. I also used Revo Uninstaller to ensure that all files were deleted. This even uninstalled the complete Office package but still would not allow the new Visio to install. After quite a few tries of un-install I trawled the Registry and removed anything I could find that related to Visio.
It still would not even attempt to install and still gave the same message that the previous copy was present. So I decided to install it on my laptop and it installed OK but will not start. It gives the message that it has encountered a problem, do you want to start in safe mode? It then fails in safe mode also.
Both computers are using Windows XP SP3.
When I tried to get assistance from the Microsoft website it would not accept the Visio Product Key and needed my credit card details so they could charge me for finding out why their software would not work.
Keeps asking for the Product Identification number which you obtain when you run the software. Would be good if I could install it properly and then run it.
Questions: How do I convince my main computer that the Beta version of Visio is not there? What could be preventing the laptop installation from running? Is the Visio 2010 software known to be full of bugs, like most other Microsoft products?

Well, my brother had the same problem a ways back. We didn't know what was doing it, until we got Win7.
The best bet i got for you is get a newer OS - The program just doesnt like XP.
Not much help i know, but it's all that worked for us...
