If not already, it probably will be soon. Why I say this is because in your Profile, you have a checkbox signifying your "desire" to become a moderator - I can only assume that means the forums will be moderated and moderators will be appointed (or have already been appointed).

It's partially moderated. We run a spam filter on incoming posts and if a post is flagged as possible spam it goes into the manual moderation queue, which is checked several times a day. Otherwise, posts go live straight away.

What about moderated for, say, offensive content?
Not that APC has much of a problem with it - and I've skimmed through the policy. Some threads/replies go for pages with little but insults, so I'm sort of curious if there's some kind of 'official limit' or content that could go too far.

Will we have any further moderators, and if so when will they be decided?

Content that breaches our forum rules (including personal attacks) should be moderated -- however we rely on users to let us know about problem posts. Unfortunately, the piece of functionality that allows you to do that -- a "report offensive post" link on each post -- has gone AWOL; I'll see about getting that reinstated.
As for extra moderators -- yes, it's a good idea. When we created the forums I figured we'd appoint them when we needed them... do you think we need them?

As much as I'd love to sit here and raise my hands telling you we need them, in hope I could become a moderator, I don't think we REALLY need them just yet. I don't know what everyone else thinks but as long as we'd have someone hop on here every day it should be fine.
It all depends if the APC staff are able to check the forums over days off and holidays.

The forums currently only have a hand full of regular users.
Given the pain of this interface I'll be interested to see if that ever increases.
For now I like the level of moderation where people can say what they think without being vulgar and there isn't some 14 year old waiting to get home from school and delete your post because you 'said a naughty word'.

I can agree with the couple of posts above, at this stage, moderation isnt needed as the forums are doing pretty well as it is, sure I can think of a few threads where there has been a personal shot at a member but the offender has soon copped a return volleythat has quelled the arguement without being nasty in return.

While moderating for offensive language is a good idea, I do not think it warrants heavy moderation yet ! Everyone is entitled to their opinions without someone else jumping in and appointing himself as a moderator seeking and demanding justification and validity for every post. If this was the case, no one would have a valid case to post any facts. I have rarely seen any comment with cited references. While I and others have pursued issues we have had with a certain member, I don't think ours or his comments should be moderated and censored. We haven't threatened murder or any of the sort. We're adults and a good verbal stoush does not imply any harm to anyone. This is why I like visiting APC and not the heavily censored abc.net.au ! And as for moderators, do we get to vote them in or is it a case of nepritism ;-)
