I am a Linux user. I have been one for around six months, and I absolutely adore it. I'm happy to say that my Acer TravelMate 2400 works nearly entirely within Ubuntu 8.04, sans the wireless card, which I fixed with a quick Google search, using Ethernet. When I hit a problem, I ask for solutions on the excellent Ubuntu forums. I currently run a modified version of Ubuntu, with the Openbox window manager. I do not have a Windows install on my machine, or any other machine owned by me.
What I read, however, is completely different to my experience. I read newbies who need help, and then I see posts throwing ignorant slander and blatant lies about Linux, in a sad attempt to "cure" another curious computer user.
I understand that hardware detection isn't perfect, and I know that you absolutely despise the command line (for reasons that escape me), but what you have to understand is that Linux, like everything else in computers, requires effort. Not a lot of effort, however. One forum post on a Linux forum is all it takes. Or one Google search. If you're too lazy for that, don't take it out on hard working developers.
Let's get something out of the way. I don't want to here that Linux is difficult without some explanation. I don't want to see personal insults thrown at me, or any other Linux user. I hope that any accusations will come with some sort of source. Most importantly, we don't want flame wars. Maturity, please.
And I know Linux isn't perfect. ;)

It is simply a case of inexperience in almost all instances.

Dude, please check my post "Re: Linux users 'time rich'", i open it i think 2 month ago and look how it turn up...
I though i had a point in the whole issue but i think it got very out hand, i still have problems with linux in my own way and i'm very disappointed in the little help i got, people just start a war for no reason, and so far the only person is willing to help me i think just doesn't have the time or keep in forgetting about me but i can't really complain about it...
I don't want to be miss understand here, i love linux, i think is the best thing is happening against big corporations such as Microsoft, but i can't really see that (together we are stronger) factor with linux...
I will keep observing this, hopefully it will not turn out like mine...

Yes. I often find asking meaningful questions with intent to flamebait or as part of a flamebait thread is the best method to clear through the clutter and get the support needed.
Out of interest what did you expect to happen?
Also if you would still like some help please start a thread detailing specific issues and I, and I assume others, with do every thing we can to help you.

Thanks dude...
I really didn't though that will happen, i think i just have a different way to see and do things, the problem i got is very simple, is call Fujitsu Stylistic st4110, and is been in a shell for about year and a half...
And to tell you the true, i don't have the energy or will power to keep up with so if you or anybody has a Stylistic st4110 with linux install and is willing to to make a live cd out the fully working system i'm willing to pay as much as a brand new windows license for it...
What i post in my old thread stand, linux is for those who knows it, new user will never be confident enough to go for it and the ones that are real happy using it don't pass it on in an easy way... Is like a great achievement or personal goal...
that's all, i don't want this to end up as the other thread, as i say before i think linux is the Ernesto "Che" Guevara of the computer world...

A very brief Google implies that Ubuntu runs on it and that it has for awhile with some minor caveats.
Could you be more specific as to what the issue is and what you've tried in the way of distros. Specifically if you have managed to make it past the installation (which seems to require a usb keyboard due to bad detection of the touch screen) and setting up accessibility so you can resume from standby using a touch screen.
Also if you happen to live on the east side of Melbourne I wouldn't mind taking a look at the device. I've never played with one of these before and it looks rather cool for a tablet.

I agree with Eps. If you're interested in finding a solution, make a new thread titled "Ubuntu on Stylistic st4110" and include details of the problem. If you're not interested, then your other thread should be sufficient for venting your frustration.
I can think of a few ways to get around a liveCD not working - perhaps one will apply to your machine. Perhaps not :o(

Could you please tell us firstly what's wrong with your machine (aka, what doesn't work in Linux) and then tell us the specific name and manufacturer of the component that doesn't work and then maybe we can help you. We seriously need that. ;)
