I have a Fujitsu Stylistic ST4110 for about 2 years sitting on a shelf, i have tried the every linux live cd out there without luck, i have check this pages.

http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/fujitsu.html

so i know SUSE and UBUNTU have been install in the ST4110, most of my problem has been around the x window even when i install the old i810 driver for the display...

The ST4110 have this wireless network install just in case anybody need to know mbh7wm01-8734, also uses a wacom and pen...

I wanna make this installation from scratch so the first question will be.

SUSE or UBUNTU, what version and where to download it, if is not the latest ones, and probably cd rather than dvd to make it a bit faster to download?...

I do have a usb dvd drive, keyboard and mouse and probably anything i might need...

Thanks...

For the latest stable release of Ubuntu, check the list of mirrors for a local download of 8.04.1. The default install is on a single CD.

This page on the ubuntuforums has a guide on how to set up the ST4110 for the previous version of Ubuntu(7.10). It should be similar or the same, but if you really want you could download that version and try it. I'd recommend 8.04.1, but that's just me.

For Mandriva, I'm not sure the best place to get it from but I believe it's a DVD download (or 3 cd's). Should be a version corresponding with 2008 - spring. You probably want a torrent, just for the guaruntee of integrity.

Is this any help?

Previously, were you able to get to the point where you were logged in? Or did you get stuck beforehand?

The problems were different in all cases, with ubuntu and opensuse after the installation when the x window start loading the screen give some white lines then slowly white all the screen, in other case it say that it wasn't well configure and i couldn't manually sorted out for some reason...

the only system i could load but with a lot of work is Puppylinux, but i needed to plug a keyboard to start the GUI, the wireless and digitizer and some other things didn't work and couldn't work it out...

i'm about to finish downloading the latest Ubuntu cd, gonna probably get it by tomorrow, i will install it and post the result...

Ricardo,

it sorta looks like Ubuntu is having trouble identifying the video card or the monitor.

Is it stable at the "ubuntu@ubuntu:~$" prompt? If so, Ubuntu has loaded but can't start "X". Try entering startx at the prompt and see if you get some sort of meaningful error message.

PS on "difficult hardware I find Ubuntu 7.10 is a better bet. It lets you manually configure the xconfig file to damned well TELL it what to do.

Interested if anyone has successfully done this install 'cause it sounds like a doozy!!!
