I'm a Windows user, and recently, I've been getting pissed off with MS Vista. I like the Linux distros and I can try them for free (no probs there, lol) and I've heard a lot about Mac's. I was basically wondering if there was a way to try the Mac interface without buying Mac. I now Vista had like a Vista Ultimate Test Drive thing online. If anyone can help me that would be great.

What about this - MAC101 - does it help?

I also wanted to try a MAC and so I bought an old eMac - 1.25G G4 with 1G RAM. I came with OS X 10.4 (which I upgraded to 10.5) and Office 2004. I'm quite surprised at how fast it runs with 10.5!

I am not yet ready to move from Windows VU to a MAC, but this old machine certainly showed that it would be possible!

Yes Jake, that's them. It might be a few years old and heavy, but it does perform.

For someone who had never used a MAC before, I found it perfect for the price and as a way to (quickly) learn about MACs. The only embarrassment was not being able to work-out how to open the CD/DVD door, but a quick call to a local MAC dealer soon gave me the answer :-)

this is an old post, but you can install on a spare hd or parttion a copy of mac osx using image like kalyway OSX

its not legal to install even if you own a copy of os.x but it can give you a good example.

True, but the the Mac OS X license states that it can only be installed on an Apple LABELLED computer.

...but I'll tell you something, the real thing is alot better than the fake one. I love my Macbook.Seriously, have a go on one of the demo machines at the Apple Store. Its not for everyone, but its good enough.

try nextbyte i saw in one of their catlogues that you can try a mac for 30 days and if you don't like it you can return for 100% of your money back. and if you don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a mac check this out, some guy put OS X on a home built pc

yes alot of us have osx on a pc, but it is still illegal.

and thats the crux of it really, if you want to test osx and be legal, you haev to go to a friends house or the next byte thing.

otherwise a hackintosh is simple and easy to set up....but not legal in any shape or form
