Gmail joins Calendar and Contacts as a Google Sync service with instant delivery to any mobile device that supports Exchange ActiveSync.

Google continues its push (no pun intended) into the mobile market this week with the addition of Gmail to the Google Sync platform on devices which support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

Launched earlier this year, Google Sync introduced synchronisation for Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar against the iPhone and iPod Touch plus Windows Mobile and Symbian Series 60 devices. Gmail, however,  was notably absent.

Now Google Sync has become a true ‘triple threat’ to platform-specific push email services.

“Using Google Sync, you can now get your Gmail messages pushed directly to your phone” writes Google Mobile software engineer Doug Gresham on the Google Mobile blog (this is one worth bookmarking and adding to your RSS feed list).

Google Sync for Dummies..?

Unlike the popular Gmail Mobile app, Google Sync delivers email as soon as it hits the Google servers – and new messages land in your mobile phone’s own inbox instead of requiring an additional app to be loaded.

Google Sync is available through m.google.com/sync – visit the site from your desktop or laptop and follow the instructions.
