Google polishes Chrome 2.0 browser

The new Web browser is not only much faster, it finally gets form auto-fill and a full-screen mode. Hurrah!

While its debut release left a more than a bit to be desired, it looks like Chrome 2.0 is almost ready for prime time.

Unveiled this weekend, the new browser makes good on Google’s pledge of a serious speed boost from the new version of WebKit and updated JavaScript ‘V8’ engine.

Early reports are of gains between 20-40% using benchmarks such SunSpider for JavaScript, where Chrome is now twice as fast as Firefox 3.0 and six times zippier than Internet Explorer 8.

Google says that it’s listened to feedback from users and implemented the most requested features such as automatic form-fill and a full-screen mode which can be toggled using the F11 key.

Windows can be dragged and dropped so that they fit the screen in equal size, and thumbnails of specific sites can be removed from the New Tab page – very handy when you’ve been visiting sites that you may not want others to know about!

Yep.
I fully intend to roll out Chrome to our school's computers, but until there's a Linux version, I refuse to. Google should know better!

I tried it. It worked fine until I tried to open a site via an e-mail with Outlook. All I get now are blank pages even without Outlook. It still will not do what every other browser will do. Yes it's quick but until it can run on a 64bit machine without tweaks then I will stick with IE. Google – if you are going to release something then release it with full capabilities……..
