HP rumored to be working on notebooks with integrated pico projector

Putting a pico projector in a notebook is a great idea, if the projector doesn't suck.

I have used several pico projectors over the last year or so and in theory they are fantastic with tiny dimensions that are extremely portable. In practice they are pretty good as long as you have a dark room, otherwise you can hardly see the image most project. There is already a smartphone on the market with a pico projector accessory and HP is now set to add pico projectors to some of its laptops reports Engadget.

Details on exactly which models will get projectors and when this will happen are scarce. Reports peg both notebooks and tablets coming to market this year with pico projectors inside. I can see the benefit of integrating a projector with your notebook. Business users will only need their notebook for presentations and you can watch movies and play games on a larger screen.

In practice, HP had better have some good projector tech up its sleeve. If it uses projectors that aren’t very bright, I can see some angry consumers. HP's Marty Wong said the projector would go at the top of the screen where the webcam would traditionally be found. Seems to make more sense to put it on the opposite side of the lid to me, but I am not HP executive.

I doubt they'll be any real use. For the limited size screen they'll end up with, wouldn't it be easier to just have everyone look at the built in screen?
