New Atom CPUs are first in x86 market to integrate graphics onto the CPU.

I mentioned last week that Asus had offered up some official pics of the new Eee 1005P and 1005PE netbooks that run the new Intel Atom Pine Trail CPUs. Intel has now gone official with the introduction of the Pine Trial platform. The new processors include the N450 for netbooks, DL450 for nettops, and dual-core DL510 for nettops. All of the new processors are combined with the new NM10 Express chipset.

The new Pine Trial Atom parts are the first CPUs in the x86 market to offer integrated graphics within the CPU. The new integrated construction also puts the memory controller on the CPU as well. This allows Intel to drop one of the chips from the platform by shedding the I/O controller hub. Cutting one of the chips typically used in the platform allows for computers that take up less space and consume less power.

The new platform offers a 20% improvement in average power and a smaller overall package size than previous Atom platforms. The N450 CPU has 512K L2 cache and a 7W TDP (thermal design power -- an indication of how much heat the whole package will shed into the notebook). The D410 has the same 512K of L2 cache and a 12W TDP. The D510 has 1MB of L2 cache and a 15W TDP. All of the new processors run at the same 1.66GHz frequency. The processors are set for availability in January.
