Lenovo U1 Hybrid is two computers in one.

Lenovo pulled the wraps off one of the most unique computers at CES 2010 last week. The machine is called the IdeaPad U1 Hybrid. It looks like a Lenovo IdeaPad netbook at first glance, but a closer inspection shows that the screen pops out of the keyboard section of the device and can be used as a tablet.

The machine runs Windows 7 and uses a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The screen/tablet section of the device is 11.6-inches and it runs on the Lenovo Skylight Linux when removed. That would mean that the Windows OS is installed on a HDD inside the keyboard section. Another interesting feature is that both sections of the U1 have their own battery.

That means that while the tablet portion is off doing its own thing, the base can be connected to an external monitor and continue to be used as a standard Windows PC. The Linux OS is said to be more like the iPhone than Windows and will take some getting used to for most users. The machine is set to ship on June 1 in America for $US999 ($1081).
