Lenovo reveals ultra-thin ultra-cheap ThinkPad X100

It’s not just the ThinkPad X100’s profile which is skinny – the price tag for Lenovo’s first ULV notebook will be half that of the premium ThinkPad X200.
Lenovo has joined the parade of laptop vendors slotting an ultrathin product between their low-cost netbook and conventional notebook lines.
According to
ThinkPad Today, the X100 – to be formally launched at January’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas – packs a 11.6 inch HD (16:9) screen and is rated for five hours battery life.
Above and below: leaked Lenovo snaps detailing the ThinkPad 100, courtesy of ThinkPad Today Like the 12.1 inch X200, Lenovo’s slimmest ThinkPad to date, the X100 lacks an optical drive and weighs 1.36kg. But unlike the X200, which in the US kicks off at over US$1000, Lenovo’s target for the X100 is in the sub-U$500 mark.
It’s also set to bring a welcome dash of colour to the usually staid ThinkPad family, with white and red casework joining the traditional black chassis. The X100 also packs a full-sized MacBook-style chiclet or ‘floating’ keyboard with a multi-touch trackpad.
Where ThinkPad Today slips up, however, is describing the X100 as the first ThinkPad netbook. This isn’t some Atom-powered 10 inch mini-note – with Lenovo opting for AMD’s ultra-low voltage Neo processor (some Web sites also suggest Intel’s ULV silicon could land on the menu), the X100 belongs to the ‘ultrathin’ category in which we’ve already seen Asus, Dell and HP making their move.
