No-one has yet seen a 3G iPhone in Australia but the price cutting has already started, with online retailer LineLink Data Communications firing the first shots.
APCmag.com's Danny Gorog earlier broke
this story
suggesting that Harvey Norman (under their Domayne brand) would be
selling iPhones for $699.99 and $999.99 for the 8GB and 16GB versions
respectively.
But it seems the price cutting war has already
started. Online retailer LineLink Data Communications has posted pre-order details for what look to be
unlocked 3G iPhones.
They've announced pricing of $775 for the 8GB version and $875 for the 16GB unit. Obviously, the iPhone 3G is not available and there's no promise of an actual delivery or supply date being made.
LineLink is accepting payment either by credit card or through the PayPal service operated by eBay. We checked out LineLink's bona fides on the ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) and didn't find any negative notices. LineLink's "About" page says they've been trading since 1994.
While Optus and Vodafone, the two telcos to have confirmed that they'll be selling the iPhon, are playing their pricing cards close to their chests, it seems that other potential resellers will be forcing their hand.
