Matthew Hartman builds an affordable quality PC

Matthew thought our Value PC in our Updated Builds area was way too expensive. Here's his configuration for a budget PC that's way cheaper. Matthew is a web designer at Bright Media.

Core System

CPU: AM3 Sempron LE 140 - 2.7Ghz Processor - $39
This low-cost CPU is more than enough to cater for some Gaming*, Internet Use, General Work, Burning and much more.

MOTHERBOARD:  Asus M2A74-AM-SE (256MB ATI On-Board Graphics) - $65
With its strong, solid capacitors, my personal opinion is that ASUS is the king of all motherboards. There are great features on this affordable board. It comes with integrated ATI Radeon Graphics, 6 channel audio and special BIOS features to ensure maximum performance.

RAM: 2GB 800Mhz DDR2 Kingston Ram - $54
From past experiences, it’s not worth the headache of buying cheap, generic RAM. Kingston is renown for its
brand, high quality and performance.

GRAPHICS: Onboard - $0
See motherboard.

HARD DRIVE: seagate SATA 500GB HDD - $59
The 500GB Seagate hard disk is essential, because there is not much price difference between the 160GB,
250GB and 320GB HDD. By having 500GB, you get all the benefits of storing tonnes of documents, photos,
movies, music and much more.

OPTICAL DRIVE: ASUS SATA 24x Dual Layer DVDRW - $39
When it comes to DVD writing + ripping, the ASUS handles the job with ease. The price is unbeatable too!

CASE/PSU:  A-Power 650 Case w+ Power Supply - $29
The A-Power 650 case is very stylish and its cram packed with value. It comes with 2 standard case fans, 4 bays and a 400 Watt Power Supply.

Core system cost: AUD $285

EXTRAS

MONITOR: 18.5” Acer X193HQ DVI - $121 ($92 with $29 cashback)
If you don’t have an old CRT Monitor to use and prefer a stylish LCD, go for the Acer. Not only is it dirt cheap, it
comes with a 2-year warranty.

KEYBOARD/MOUSE:  Gigabyte Desktop GK-KM5000 - $12
This is truly a great buy. At only 12 bucks, you get a very comfortable Gigabyte keyboard and optical mouse.

SOUND: Logitech S150 2.0 - $17
If you’re not too fussy about surround sound, but would like something very decent, then Logitech is the way to
go.
