MSI pulls the wraps off two new notebooks aimed at users wanting style and performance.

Back at CES in January MSI was showing off a cool dual-screen tablet computer that was very cool. MSI has now announced a couple new notebooks that are more mundane than that dual-screen beauty, but more practical for most of us. The new notebooks are the CX420 and CR420. The two machines are virtually identical in features and specifications.

The only real difference between the two is that the higher-end CX420 gets ATI Radeon HD5470 discrete graphics card along with integrated Intel HD graphics, whereas the CR420 gets the Intel HD graphics only. The CX420 can be changed between the two GPUs at the press of a button depending on the needs of the user. Both notebooks are going to use unspecified 2010 Intel Core processors. Presumably, that means Core i3 or Core i5 parts.

Other features include 14-inch 1366 x 768 resolution displays, up to 4GB of RAM, and up to 500GB of storage. The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium and both use the Intel HM55 chipset. Power for the notebooks comes from a 6-cell battery and other features include HDMI, memory card reader, and 802.11b/g/draft N WiFi. The notebooks measure 344.4mm W x 221mm D x 13.5~28mm H and weigh about 2.2 kg.
