Want to grab your unique user name on scores of social networking sites? Namechk is a good place to start.
This week we stumbled upon a delicious Web service which left us all a’twitter, and we thought you’d digg it too. Okay, enough with the second-rate puns...
Namechk.com does pretty much what it says on the can – it checks your desired username against almost a hundred social networking and social bookmarking sites. Webmail services such as Gmail and Hotmail aren’t included, perhaps because email is just
so passe.
But for just about any social site you’ve heard of, and scores of relative unknowns, you can enter a name and see on how many sites it’s available or taken.
There’s a link to each site so you can jump straight into the sign-up process if you want to ensure a consistency of your user name as your ‘personal brand’ around the Internet, or just to make things easier so you don’t have to keep track of a dozen different log-in names.
