Nero CD/DVD burner goes FREE!

Free version of Nero 9 has no time limits and will allow basic CD and DVD authoring.

One of the things with Windows Vista that just never seemed to work right for me was the integrated CD and DVD burning capability. Every now and again, my computer simply refuses to burn a disk with Vista's integrated burning capability.

If you aren’t a fan of Vista's CD/DVD authoring tool, Nero has a new product that is right up your ally. Nero has announced that it is now offering Nero 9 as a free version. The free version of the popular application allows users to burn data discs to CD or DVD and allows users to copy discs as well.

The functionality of the free version is basic, but for most users it will be all they need. There is no time limitation on the app, you can download it and keep it as long as you want. Users of the free version can also get a discounted upgrade to the full Nero 9 suite and free users can take advantage of a free 15-day trial of the full Nero 9 suite. Nero does require registration to get the free software, which means you may need to endure some marketing messages to use the app.

No you got a bundled version the CD manufacturer paid a license for the included software. The bundled version are usually cut down and restricted to only work with a particular model of DVD burner.

This story is spot on about Vista's inbuilt authoring software being god awful. I found trying to describe it to newbies particularly confusing, whereas the interface of Nero and it's ilk got the "Oh, that's easy" moment very quickly. Top marks Nero.

oem versions are only $1 anyway. Does this free version burn iso's? Otherwise I'll stick to the free cdburnerxp. Nice gesture though.. but I gave up nero long ago - way too bloated.

Thanks "Michael J" But :( as I mainly use "Firefox" and am still tooling around with WinXP there doesn't seem to be an option to do this on that menu. I mean that you can't go Tools>Folder Options> View-Tab on there or am I missing something ?

Have always liked Nero products but I feel something has gone a little awry after version 8.0.
Anything has to be better than the bundled version for Windows!

Yea :( I remember in the older versions of Nero, the help file was usually at the top-right there somewhere but now if I want to access that,I have to put in the cd and look for what I want :( Quoting Me In Oz:
