New Nikon D3000 is the perfect DSLR for new users thanks to slick Guide mode.

DSLR cameras are widely considered to be very complex devices and that fact scares away many new users that might be interested in a DSLR camera. Nikon has announced a new DSLR today called the D3000 that aims to squash those fears of complexity.

Sure the camera has a plethora of manual features that will be overwhelming, but the camera offers a special mode just for noobs called the Guide mode. In Guide mode an on screen interface walks first-time users though selecting shooting modes and other settings that can be used to get better images. The only real downside to the D3000 is that it can't record video like the Pentax K-7 we talked about a few months ago.

The camera itself has a 3-inch TFT LCD and can shoot bursts continuously at three frames per second. The D3000 uses a 10.2-megapixel sensor and an 11-point autofocus system. Nikon also equips the camera with its EXPEED image processing system. The D3000 has enough automatic modes that new users can use the camera like a point-and-shoot until they build confidence. Images are stored to SD or SDHC cards and the camera will sell for $US599 for the body and an 18-55mm VR kit lens.

I hope this doesn't become the norm... Imagine all the tourists with DSLRs standing there with their family all posed waiting for the guy with the camera to watch the tutorial :-P
